The company
From a very early age, Jean-Marie Dehaeze was driven by 3 passions: music, engineering and aeronautics.
As a boy he designed crystal radio sets, which later evolved into small electronic circuits, then loudspeakers. He also played the piano throughout those years, and was a soloist in his school choir.
Reading about the adventures of Guynemer, Mermoz and Saint-Exupéry developed his passion for aeronautics. That is how he chose a career as a fighter-pilot engineer.
A music lover dissatisfied with the sound reproduction of the many audio systems he acquired over the years, he set himself the challenge of designing loudspeakers. He then filed several patents.
After 20 years in the French Air Force, he ended his career and turned down the many approaches from companies interested in his background as a fighter-pilot engineer. He took early retirement for “exceptional services rendered to the Nation”, which allowed him to devote himself full time to acoustics, financing his research from his own funds.
15 years of full-time research devoted to loudspeakers
Jean-Marie Dehaeze went back to the aerodynamics and fluid mechanics courses he had taken during his engineering studies at the École de l’Air, to look into the problems of bass reproduction. From this came a patent that still seems to him entirely fundamental today. He thus succeeded in designing a particularly neutral loudspeaker, allowing faithful sound reproduction of all types of music (no sonic signature).
Tenacious, persevering and rigorous, he turned down at that time the many proposals to market his products, accepting no compromise on their quality.
10 years of full-time research devoted to cables
Realising that the upstream components (electronics and cables) limit the quality of the loudspeakers’ sound reproduction, he chose to look into the problems related to cables, which are a particularly weak link in any hi-fi system.
Recalling an experiment made in earlier years (a comparative listening of his hi-fi system with its cables, then with these same cables “stripped”), he undertook in-depth research on them.
His passion and his need to understand the phenomena involved in carrying a signal led him to regard the harmful influence of the insulation on the conductor as decisive. He then filed a new patent.
A perfectionist, his constant concern is to obtain exceptional results. His years of research led him to strive for excellence through ever greater simplicity, an essential “quality” for obtaining the greatest possible reliability.
The WingAudio® adventure begins in 2019
After these very long years of research, finally satisfied with the quality of his loudspeakers and cables, and joined by his eldest son Guillaume, an engineer, they set out to manufacture and sell his products. The company WingAudio® is created.
Today, the time devoted to their design makes it possible to offer flawless products of great musicality, which aim to satisfy the most demanding music lovers for very many years.
